My first poem is about a fond family memory; I was about 8, and whole family dressed up as The Shining characters despite us kids never having seen the movie. I didn’t care, though, because the costume made all my teachers laugh and everyone said it was a great family costume. I don’t think anything has topped it since; and I love the memory because it makes a particularly dark subject light and fun. My second poem is about the loss of my cat, and how I feel like nothing could ever replace him. I’m using things such as a stuffed animal in an attempt to alleviate my grief, but it isn’t really working and I’m finding it hard to go about life without my cat.

Exploring creativity is a way for me to express who I truly am. I use writing to find myself, learn more about who I am, and show struggles and moments in my life I want to immortalize. It helps me connect with like-minded people, and makes my family happy when I write about shared experiences.
