Phil from Boy's Life by Howard Korder

Clark S.

  • I have been working on this monologue for quite a while now. It is one of my favorites. I have gone through several different interpretations and tones before deciding on this, but the core of the piece has always been the same: connecting to the disconnect. Phil feels outside his own life, as if he was merely watching someone else live it. He dissociates often, leading to serious depression and anxiety. It was a challenge to find my way through that darker theme. However, as someone who has experienced similar things, I naturally felt very in tune with this piece and the character.

  • Through acting, I am able to connect with characters and other people in a way I never have been able to on my own. It allows me to put myself into my characters and learn from them, while still creating something unique and expressive.
