Paranoid

Alisha A.

  • Paranoid is a short story about being betrayed by your mind and fighting constantly. The story is really a metaphor for mental health and how it can deteriorate. The monsters are intrusive thoughts that always stick with you. With this story, I really wanted to explore how people deal with these thoughts, their "monsters". The character in this story is always in fear from the monsters. I wanted to leave the character nameless and without descriptions so they had an ambiguous idea. I think removing the stigma around discussing mental health is very important. Paranoid tries to be that, my hope for it was to be eye-opening. To create an atmospheric story which has many layers. I wanted to reader to step into the character and feel the emotions they felt first hand. When I write stories I am really inspired by life around, like random people I observe on the street. I believe having a creative outlet is very important. For me its writing, I love just sitting down and writing everything down.

  • Exploring creativity helps me feel free, like a burden being lifted from my shoulders. When I write stories I feel like there are endless opportunities. When I have things going on, I can sit and just write. Pour my heart out with words and feel better.
