OM

Aditi B.

  • Kathak is one of eight Indian Classical dance forms. The word "Kathak" is derived form the word "Katha", which means story, and "Kathakaar", meaning storyteller. Kathak is characterized by intricate footwork, facial expressions, and complex compositions on different kinds of beats.

The piece that I am performing is called Om, a perfect example of the beauty and grace of Kathak. This piece is known as the cosmic dance of creation. It depicts the quiet before Lord Shiva's wrath, who is a deity in Hinduism, through intense footwork and many spins.

  • To me, expressing my creativity allows me to see the world from a different point-of-view. This helps me notice and appreciate details that are often overlooked in the chaos of life. Dance lets me take a break from the fast-paced craze of high school to enjoy the little things that we tend to miss.
