Neon Candy

Priyanka S.

  • The specific scene that I am capturing is through the window of a small candy shop in a local downtown area of a neighboring city. An area that was relatively abandoned and void of life, the bright, vivid, and inviting candy store drew my eyes. There was no one inside the store, and the door was locked, but still, the place had an atmosphere of familiarity and invitation.

I took a couple of pictures of the store window and forgot about them until days later when I was scrolling through my photographs and noticed the incredibly saturated images, impossible to ignore. The editing process was minimal and simple; just a little cropping, lowering the highlights, and increasing the saturation a smidge to bring out the natural flamboyant colors was enough.

This photograph, for me, was not about conveying a super profound message. I was passing this unassuming store, enjoyed the lights, and took a picture to capture the view. That was all!

  • By attempting to see the beauty in seemingly insignificant and mediocre objects and places, (I try to capture said beauty through photography), I have begun to appreciate the world around me and see it as more lovely and charming compared to how I have always initially regarded it.
