Darren K. is the name of the person I chose. He is now a lawyer. He married a woman named Joyce K., who later became my math tutor for five years. I became extremely close to her. They were my neighbors for 12 years. She was like a second mother to me. In early 2016 she was diagnosed with cancer. She died in late 2018. Darren K. took me under his wing to help me navigate dealing with grief. I am the way I am today because of him and other beautiful people in my life.
We decided to do a meadow in Wildcat Canyon for the photo shoot because this was the closest we could get to Hawaii which was one of her favorite places in the world and she loved palm trees. In fact she loved palm trees so much, I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate them into this photograph that way, in a way, they’re both in it.

Photography gives me a special place to not only relax but to give me the opportunity to express and process my emotions. It allows me to learn about peoples lives and hear their stories when I do portrait photography.
