While making my artwork, I like to research photographers who are well know. Not necessarily famous photographers who are in magazines and museums, but photographers who are still working to make a name for themselves. I've found that a lot of newer photographers explore concepts and techniques that I am interested in, and that they can provide inspiration for a photoshoot of my own.
When I first start shooting for any project, I take one or two test photos for each shot, to give myself time to change settings, angles, or lighting as needed. The last few times I set myself up for a self portrait photoshoot, I lined the back screen of my camera up with my mirror, so that while I was shooting, I could look in the mirror and see what my camera was capturing. Lately, I've been messing around with shutter speed and my desk lamp. On one of my latest shoots, I angled my lamp through my bed's ladder, which created shadows on my wall that I incorporated into my photos. My favorite part of my artistic process is discovering the way I can use my surroundings to enhance my photoshoots.

Exploring my creativity in photography has allowed me to explore the way I want to express myself. Lately, I've been shooting self portraits, to experiment with how I can capture myself and how I can show themes without anything more than a picture. I've learned to love myself through photography.
