Manananggal Meets Corporate Feminism, On Consuming

Zoe D.

  • Currently, as a writer, I am interested in exploring how our culture’s ideas of “villainy,” passed through literature and other forms of media, impact the way we criminalize and, in turn, dehumanize groups of people based on race, gender, and class.

These poems - one on a #girlboss Filipina demon creature, another on a “villainous” woman from an American reality television show - are an exploration of this “villainy.”

  • Poetry, specifically spoken word, has taught me the value in communal storytelling which, through listening to and developing my work with a community of poets, has helped me grow into my voice.
