Grandma Moses

Anonymous

  • This poem was inspired by a photograph taken by Arnold A. Newman. In it, Grandma Moses sits in her favorite rocking chair with a look of deep contemplation. My goal was to capture the thoughts she could have had in this moment, and as an interpretation of her character. Grandma Moses was known for her positive, childlike personality, which I attempted to convey by keeping each stanza within 2 or 3 lines—similar to the fleeting thoughts of a young child.

  • When I'm passionate about something, I'll search for resources and build connections in order to further those interests. I'll often get suggestions from people that will open new opportunities for me. For example: I'm very passionate about music and have now joined an orchestra.
