Divine Woman

I have submitted 3 poems about topics I am particularly entangled by.
The first poem, “Blooming”, is about how the world is a cold place, but in our minds are flowers for the beautiful people and things in our lives. We tend to spend our life waiting for our “soulmate”, though soulmates can come and go as well. The flower represents growth, beauty, and nurture. As our mind is a sacred garden where we take care of and nourish love.
The second poem, “Divine Woman”, is actually a shorter version of a much longer poem. The poem uses a metaphor about a gun. This relates to how the first lesson of gun safety is to treat each gun as if it were loaded. As a young girl the notion that men are dangerous is coated in our brains like a stain that you cannot just wash out. Because each man becomes an enemy, and each one is loaded and unless we find it safe to revise. The poem revolves around this idea, and evolves it into a positive message that encourages us to overcome societal norms and the patriarchy.
The third poem, “Survival”, starts off by listing how deeply rooted discrimination is in society. The main idea of the poem was to be a reminder that we should not be degrading one another when we are all trying to survive the same day. We always tend to forget that everyone is living this life for the first time, and that we are all people, not just skin colors and genders. That’s why “Survival”, ends with a rhetorical question, to have the reader self-reflect on how their actions and decisions could be contributing to hate, when they could use that energy for something more valuable to them.
Two of these submitted poems originated in incidents or things I was mulling over in my life, while "Moon Trip" was just a fun idea that a few phrases of popped into my head one day, followed by the concept. A lot of my work begins like that, with a scene, phrase, or image, etc., and then starts percolating into existence around the starting point as I think about it more. And then I have to write it down while it's fresh, or the idea might disappear or wither up!
In the coming years, I'll be working to be published. I'd like my writing to make a difference somehow, somewhere, even if it's just making one random person smile, or some other person think, or letting someone know that s/he's not alone.

Poetry has the power to convey emotions as big as love and hate, to start revolutions, and to bring people together. Writing has impacted every single aspect of my life for the better, and I am so grateful to be able to share my work and read others’ works too.
