Deep Within the Bermuda

For my composition, my goal was to tell a complete story, albeit tragic, about the ups and downs of a group of seafarers on a ship traveling through a hurricane in the Bermuda Triangle through an ABAC form.
In the beginning, there is a light melody going up and down shared by the violin and the cello depicting a calm sea. Then, as the boat heads into the storm, lightning suddenly strikes as all four instruments in the quartet play the sudden and loud notes that become the main theme. This theme is then repeated through different types of melodies throughout the instruments and vividly shows the large waves as the boat travels through. Then, the B section comes, and the instruments transition to a key that is not quite major or minor, reflecting the calm eye of the storm and the sailor's worried feelings as they are relieved to be in the eye of the storm, but know that there is a difficult journey ahead still. Then, the A section returns, and the theme is played again in a different way, depicting the return back into the storm. Finally, in the new C section, the instruments calm down and the first violin plays the elongated theme on a higher octave, expressing very long and sad emotions as the ship is finally sunk in the storm. The back and forth of the viola and second violin also reflect how the sailors struggle to their demise.
Overall, I wanted to create a dynamic piece of music that could even be the score of a movie. I wanted to create a story of ups and downs and large changes that could sound epic. Finally, it was also an analogy to the many experiences one has in life that could have ups and downs, like the pandemic, though sadly this one ended on a tragic note.

Creativity is simply the expression of whatever emotions that are unique to you and should be a result of your thoughts and experiences. In my life, I am able to express many things that I have in my mind and portray them in a beautiful way.
