In this project, I was influenced by vintage photos from Vogue showing models frozen in motion with high contrast lighting. I used my dance classmates as models to give an elevated, graceful touch to the poses. I wanted their faces to be partially obscured by harsh shadows to show their emotions and humanity rather than just being pretty faces. This was my first ever studio shoot, and I felt a bit awkward at first but ended up loving the control I had, leading every part of the process from choosing the outfits to doing my models’ makeup and directing their positions.

I use photography, specifically self portraits, to express my inner thoughts and feelings which I can't put into words. This has helped me gain self-assurance and I've started to open up and show my true personality without feeling shy or ashamed.
