Airegin by S. Rollins

Eli S.

  • This is a performance of the song "Airegin", written by Sonny Rollins in 1954 and first recorded by the Miles Davis Quintet that same year. Through listening to many interpretations of the song, I was inspired to record a version closely related to the original recording, featuring myself on tenor saxophone. The recording was done live with a trio that included: bass, drums, and guitar. Since the time I learned it, it has become one of my favorite up-tempo jazz standards to play.

  • Being creative reveals deep aspects of myself not previously observable and fosters connections between musicians that make meaningful, genuine relationships. Pursuing freedom of expression while preserving an artform has an extremely positive impact on my life by allowing me to feel fulfilled.
