To start off this cat is not just any ordinary cat if you didn’t already notice the wings, it's an alebrije which in latin culture is essentially a mythical spirit guide. This artwork was one that I have never done before in my life. It was my first time working with paper mache and it was super frustrating at first. I would redo almost everything and felt angry but I eventually just learned to let go a bit and just go along with it. We were given time to sketch and try to figure out exactly what we wanted our alebrijes to represent and what they meant to us along with what animals we would combine. Personally I wanted mine to be a beautiful, full of life animal that could bring happiness and calm to any person who needed it. The reason I chose to mix a cat and a butterfly as alebrijes is pretty simple. I adore cats and butterflies. I find them to be two of the most beautiful and spiritual animals to exist. In this art piece you will find all of my favorite colors and see my creativity shine.

Creativity to me means the root of all beauty and fun. It’s human intelligence at its finest and it's my escape from the chaos. Creativity is special because every person has their own type of creativity and they can make something unique. Creativity is what keeps the world running!
