• Artist Statement

  My artwork is my own idea and creation of an Alebrije, which is a fictional creature that has a purpose of spiritually guiding people and this originated from the Mexican and Aztec folk culture. Alebrijes are designs of more than one animal fused together covered in bright colors and a variety of patterns and shapes. My alebrije was created with newspaper and a paste to help shape it as well as gesso, paint, and a beautiful imagination. I was able to form my patterns with all different shapes and I attempted to use all different colors to draw attention to different areas of my monkey/fox.
