It Could Be My Son

  • Taken at a Black Lives Matter Protest in the Bay Area, this photograph depicts a mother and young son marching for an issue that is personal to them. Like so many mothers of POC in 2020, this woman fears for her son's life because of the color of his skin. It is a struggle that did not disappear, though, in 2020. Although the media's attention has shifted, the rate of police brutality has not. To make matters worse, many US states are fighting for bills that will take out crucial curriculum about US History, including white supremacy groups, MLK, and slavery. This education is used to deter racism through information. Without it, misinformation and prejudice thrive. The issue raised in this photo is not one that lived in 2020, but that is still present today, and if things don't start changing for the better, the future.

  • As an introvert, my camera allows me to connect with my community. Through film and photography, I can express my love for visuals, problem-solving, and social justice while strengthening my collaboration and social skills. Finding ways to lead creatively has inspired me to do the same as a creator.
