Chelsea Morning by J. Mitchell

McKenna B.

  • Chelsea Morning by Joni Mitchell has been somewhat difficult to learn for me. I have just recently branched out into solo vocal singing, as I have been singing in a choir practically my entire life. When I first heard the song, I thought it would be perfect to learn not only for scholarship opportunities, like this one, but for my actual college audition. Little did I know the amount of vocal gymnastic hoops this song would make me jump through. Learning this piece has not only helped me understand so much about my own voice, but what I need to work on in the future of my solo singing journey.

You might notice in the video that I have a furry friend lying on my bed. My dog Cooper has always loved music. Whether it be guitar or vocal music, you can always guarantee that he will find his way closer to you to take a listen. He just so decided to jump up on my bed while recording this video, and I thought that he was just the perfect addition to the warmth of this song.

  • Creativity to me is the broad use of your own imagination, whether its putting your own spin on a song or making a brand new one. Creativity is a space and a mindset that can bring kindred artists together, and create welcoming environments and ideas that can be implemented in our everyday lives.
