Self-reflection

Margot P.

Graphite, 18”x24”

  • I created this piece last summer during a pre-college program at Pratt Institute in NYC, where I studied art intensively for a month. The assignment was to draw a self-portrait while observing my reflection in a mirror. I didn’t have a mirror, so instead I improvised by using a photograph I had taken of myself in my bathroom mirror as a reference. I thought the composition would be intriguing yet challenging to capture in a drawing. Using graphite pencils ranging from 2H to 8B, I rendered my reflection three times over the course of about three weeks.

  • Creativity is the ability to create ideas, solutions, and alternatives in a distinctive way by using your imagination. I express my creativity through my art. As a visual person, art is the easiest and best way for me to portray my unique perspective of the world to others.
