Chasing Imperfections

Anonymous

  • I am but a pianist with the 88 keys as my canvas to let my imagination run wild, being free from any ”rules” and “common practice” I’ve been told for composition because real art can’t be quantified. In Chasing Imperfections”, I consistently latch onto an imperfect yet persistent motif, yet it grows with dynamics & harmonies and passionately runs free. But in trying to reach heights, this motif encounters obstacles like the purposeful “key stumbles” to reflect voices of hatred existing around and within ourselves. Yes, there isn’t a perfectly set rhythm, structure, or dynamic arc, yet none of us exist as the ideal human, because no such thing exists. Each of us is rather a motif that runs and stops, shouts and whispers, laughs and cries, and chasing after these imperfections allow us to make that “journey” that my song takes the listener through, the journey that makes us human.

  • The black and keys are an invitation to create infinitely, create music that will move those around me. Music composition is how I interpret who I AM as a person. When I compose on the piano, it’s an opportunity for others to listen for my ”right-brainedness” and my worldview.
