My process was very simple. First, I chose a song that matched my energy. I originally wanted to do a hip hop routine and then along the way, as I was choreographing, I figured out my style had some more jazzy elements. Those types of movements come very naturally to me and I personally believe that is where I can thrive. Next, I focused on the theme or idea to my dance. The song is about someone trying to escape their lover but not being able to shake them off, and I really wanted to portray that independent nature of the speaker who is trying to have a good time dancing but cannot seem to get rid of this person. Then, I mainly concentrated on putting movements together that flowed really nicely and emphasized the themes. I love when dances have facial expressions and sharp movements, so I made sure to add that into my dance. Using the lyrics is also very important to me, so I tried to syncronize my movements and the words of the song as well. After I completed the dance, I showed it to some close friends as well as a dance instructor of mine and asked for some feedback. A helpful tip that I received was to look up more; my dance teacher knows that I have been struggling with this since I first started dancing with her and it was good to be reminded of this habit of mine.

To me, what creativity means is self expression. Wherever it may be: in school, work, life, there are societal boundaries that restrict people from fully expressing themselves. If a person can find a space to really find themselves and what they feel, that is the purest form of creativity.
