Time Dilations

Tiffany Y.

  • I’m interested in how civilization change and transform as time passes. I chose to depict this passion in my digital illustration “Time Dilations”. I aim to portray how the temporary nature of human society allows it to expand and decay rapidly. Among older civilizations, new societies will form and ultimately continue the cycle.

I plan my art by creating thumbnails of compositions and color schemes on Procreate. I then adjust details like lowering saturation and increasing the contrast. I adore playing with light and dark using luminance and smooth textures against a dim background to add a sense of dreaminess. Highlights and shadows communicate better than colors in my opinion. In the future, I want to explore how perspectives like fisheye and untraditional composition could alter the mood of my art.

I’m inspired by Kazimir Malevich, who created color-blocking portraits saturated in emotional nuance—he somehow imparts foreboding themes even by using bright colors. Another inspiration, Magritte’s imaginative imagery leaves me searching for clues to solving their weirdness. Like them, I’d like to use illustrations of fantastical landscapes to make the audience question reality.

  • I use creativity to communicate and connect with others. I enjoy encouraging my peers to be creative as it inspires my own artistic process. Exploring creativity through observing art is also my way of learning new perspectives like cultural traditions. It’s important to me to be open minded.
