Nautical Twilight

"Nautical Twilight" is part of a larger project that I completed during the first semester of my senior year in high school. For this project, I photographed the sky during sunset, civil twilight, nautical twilight, and astronomical twilight at four different locations in Marin. I then created a book, which I titled "Nights of Marin," including the best photos from each time period at each location. I shot "Nautical Twilight" during nautical twilight at Sorich Ridge in San Rafael. These shoots involved a lot of trial and error, as I did not have much experience in night photography before this project. I had to constantly adjust the settings on my camera as the light changed, and I ended up with a lot of failed photos. However, over the course of the project, I grew much more comfortable as I learned the best ways to shoot during each time period.

I have developed my passion for photography and learned to appreciate this creative outlet as an escape from the chaos of my everyday life. Photography provides a sense of peace because when I'm shooting, nothing else matters. It's just me, my camera, and the moment.
