Marimba Concerto by S. Golovko

It’s a beautiful and emotional concerto composed by Mr. Sergei Golovko. It’s when Russian starts to attack Ukraine when I started to record this piece, I contacted the composer and found out his mother was still hiding in the basement for weeks. I performed it with my love and sympathy to all artists in Ukraine and performed in several fundraising concerts to help Youth Orchestra Ukraine. The title is called Russian concerto before it’s forced to be taken off by the publisher. I will keep playing it to support Mr. Golovko who’s mother is still in Ukraine and show the world that music and arts are the best and unique ways to unite people and countries, to help people in difficult time and to encourage artists to stand on their feet for spiritual reasons.
My mother plays the piano / orchestra part for me. She is a pianist and percussionist, I am blessed to have the opportunity to create this impressive version with her, an important moment for me!
Then I got a chance to talk to the composer himself through email and had his insight of the music and his opinions on my performance. Mr. Golovko is very open minded with wisdom, music really is the best bridge between generations.
Last year, I performed this concerto for several international competitions and concerts, every time I played differently and tried to tell the story from the colors of marimba and the breathtaking sound flooding from my hands and heart.
Wish you could fell the same passion, love, sympathy and forgiveness in my music too.
Thank you!

Marimba and percussion are both physically and emotionally expressive instruments. When I perform, I could share my passion, thoughts and stories through my music and body language. It also lead me to respect others’ different versions of art and life in a very intimate way. I am grateful for it!
