• Artist Statement

  My photograph depicts chromesthesia, a type of synesthesia in which sound evokes an experience of color. I used slow shutter speed to get a soft ghosting effect on the cymbal, in contrast to the sharpness of the drum kit behind it. I reflected warm colored lights off of the cymbal, resulting in a bright warm glow around the cymbal. The motion depicted by the ghosting effect expresses music, while the colors that reflect off express the experience of color that someone with chromesthesia may experience when listening to music.

• Creative Statement

  Exploring and expressing my creativity allows me to process my internal thoughts are share them with the world. When times are stressful and I feel overwhelmed, by expressing my emotions through creative outlets, I let go of my negative feelings and feel freed.
