Shedding Creativity

Cathy G.

  • Words are just a construct: little letters pieced together, sounds slurred together, methods to get across an idea. What makes humans humans? If they aren’t words, if they aren’t the technologies, aren’t the buildings, what are they?

Our emotions. Yes, our thoughts, our creativity, our brains, our emotions. In my artwork, I depict a black and white image of me. The depressive monochrome color palette resemble the physical, mundane aspects of a human. Distorted features further eventuate how “inhumane” our physical body really is. However, as we take a look at the right side, we find the reason why this artwork was created. To express the beauty and grace of emotions. While in a deep daze, emotions ooze from my mind as I imagine 10 thousand colored unicorns, circular floating houses, and friendly robots. Creativity. That is what makes me and 7 billion other people human.

  • Creativity is a voice. It’s a song you sing, a song that speaks in colors and strokes. It’s a magical concept that is able to express a person’s soul through simple shapes and compositions. To me, creativity is beautiful.
