The Apple of My Eye

Dreams are always weird and unpredictable. One of many of my odd dreams is staring into my mirror and seeing the reflection of 2 versions of myself with ”apples” instead of curls at the end of my braids. The closeup of my conjoined face is representing no matter how weird or scary my dreams (the apple) are, they still seem to captivate my attention (my eye). Making my face distorted and unsettling juxtaposes with how one may expect me to look at something with admiration and love. Using warm colors brought out familiarity in my dreams, but the dullness and the warped backgrounds displayed on my TV represents confusion and foreignness.

Forming artwork out of authenticity, criticism, and inspiration, without the fear of expressing a side of yourself that others would strike you down for, and warping all the mistakes or perfections into beautiful pieces of artwork, is what creativity means to me.
