Picture this: It’s 4:12 AM on a Sunday morning while you’re taking a break, hands half black, brain half off, the other half short-circuiting over how to make your self-portrait more meaningful. That’s when you hear the cat door flip open and your ball of allergies struts across the floor leaving a trail of soggy paw prints leading to your feet. You watch in amazement as the terribly adorable creature jumps on the table and picks not the vast open area of wood, not the mug filled with delicious, crisp water, but right in the center of your non-water-resistant charcoal piece you’ve been working on. At first, I was worried my face would have some deformities. Then, I realized that he was a big part of what makes me, me–and he was just helping me remember that my love for fluffy animals is also a big part of my identity.

Some things are hard to explain with words. Through a 2-minute sketch or a 40-hour piece, I want to show other people a bit of my life, in hopes that they can decipher meaning through my art.
