Growing in the Grey

Have you ever found a plant growing through the cracks of a sidewalk? I often see little green things poking through the grey, and I wonder at nature’s ability to find places to live in our hard and sturdy world. I was inspired to create this painting after watching an episode of Planet Earth with my family, which showed how wildlife often adjusts its way of life to fit cities, just like the little plants in the sidewalk. I especially enjoyed the urban leopard hunts that were featured, and this was the seed of Growing in the Grey. I added the paw prints and gave them a bright glow, to give the painting a mysterious and surreal look. I hope Growing in the Grey inspires you to consider each little green thing you see finding its way in a world of industry, and appreciate how hard nature works to thrive.

Creativity is important to me because it is using the imagination given to us, and it is a way for people to express themselves and bring beauty into the world and other peoples’ lives.
