Tiger Moms and Father Gods

Kaiya J.

  • I created this poem in response to my bottled up emotions surrounding my own family's dynamics. I modeled the concept of my poem off the idea that I was a city and my mother and father were the invaders and the gods watching over it. The poem is both a tribute to my unabashed love for my parents and the pain I feel they have caused me.

  • I was angry about my inability to openly express my queer identity and the pressure of being a girl. I didn't what to do with my emotions. Though Iā€™m still finding my voice and style as an artist, art has taught me how to love myself and learn to recognize the love and power around me.
