Illusion

I created "Illusion" on a software program called Ableton. My goal was to create a song that would expand my production techniques and knowledge of chord progressions. When starting, I envisioned a futuristic city that had a bustling nightlife, a world where people find a balance between AI and nature and harmony amongst themselves. I added a bassline ostinato that provided continuity throughout and reversed symbols to smooth out the transitions. I also tried adding a bit of syncopation in the beat to add variety in textures, then side-chained the bass to the kick to create a trance effect. When I make music, I get lost in thought and make what I feel. It's formless until molded by the ears of those who listen.
In the process of producing this song, often half the day would have passed by without me noticing. Through meticulous revision and constant rehearsals, I was able to produce a final product. However, there was always room for improvement. Recognizing the amount of work that went into every song, I understood “Nothing of great value in this life comes easily,” as Norman Vincent Peale once said. I fostered a greater appreciation for people’s endeavors not only in music but also in other fields.
During the pandemic, writing my own songs was my main coping mechanism for my stress, insecurities, newfound loneliness, and insomnia. I knew that many people were going through similar situations so I posted my songs online. I hoped my music would help them feel better like an iced brown sugar oat milk shaken Starbucks espresso on a cold day.
When I performed the song live by doing improve on my piano on top of the track, my family, friends, and fans supported me. I was so happy. Not the same happiness I would feel when I received my weekly allowance or ate something delicious, but a profound sense of accomplishment that would last a longer time. Resonating with others and seeing someone smile is what truly drives me to create new content.

I think music is a place for me to be myself, free from social pressures and expectations. I like to explore new techniques and push my boundaries to make my imagination become reality. It's a form of escape, healing, and empowerment. I hope to influence and relate to a greater audience with music.
