• Artist Statement

  When I first made my design I wanted it to be something simple that I could carve in a short amount of time. My initial idea was to have a line drawing without a background. My art teacher suggested that I have a background so that it would be easier to carve. however, carving the flowers was very difficult because I had to carve around my drawing and not carve out the lines. When I finished and printed the design I saw all the lines in the face and chest that I wanted to remove, but I think it add to the face and body.

  It allows me to express how I feel and center myself in times of stress.
