My artwork is a mixed media piece. I used white construction paper and began by making a collage, used printed maps, brown paper and magazine scraps. One goal of the project was to explore the use of line, so I first added the bold lines in Sharpie marker. I used charcoal pencils for the facial features and the eyes, then finally drew finer, more intricate lines with white and black gel pens. This piece was part of an adaptive artmaking project, so for the most part, I did not have much of a framework or designed end product. As I went along, I thought about composition, line, shape and texture to guide where I went next.

Creativity to me is a skill of the imagination. It can be innate in some people, just as many other skills, or it can be improved through practice. Creativity is the ability to turn nothing into something, to find artistic value in things others may not, or to make something your own.
