Traditional Perplexity

Jiro X.

Oils, acrylic, paper

  • The feeling of not being truly a part of my own family due to traditionalism throughout my childhood and in my present teenage years cannot be solely explained in words, so I’ve decided to express myself and seek answers through complexities in mark making and the use of color. I experimented with other forms of mark making, focusing on harsh, jagged textures by pre-planning brush strokes to convey feelings of discomfort through expression; how traditionalism affected my sense of self.

  • To me, creativity has never had a constant definition. Rather, it serves as a term to generalize a series of actions subsequent to each other: the ability to think, execute, and change. From the ways my history teacher conceptualizes ideas, to how I’ve scattered paint on a canvas, is creativity.
