The Hair You Killed

  • I was born into a family with straight hair, which meant it was unusual for me to come out with textured hair. I didn’t have anyone to teach me how to take care of it, and my mom hated how ’messy’ it made me look, resulting in her teaching me how to straighten my hair. I didn’t want to, but if that was the only way I could gain love, I wanted to take that chance. I loved how clean and manageable my hair had become, but once the rain came, it all washed away. I felt like a fraud. I soon learned my late grandmother had curly hair like me. It was like I was carrying a part of her and destroying it just to please others. I wanted to show others how these people can impact you, leading you to not only damage yourself, but your hair, too.

  • Everyone has creativity, some may not even know it yet. It comes in many forms, such as writing poetry, making a costume, creating a movie or screenplay, painting or drawing, making use of trash to make something beautiful, and much more. Without creativity, the world would be lifeless and boring.
