Liquid Grace

Samridhi S.

clay and glaze

  • Until this piece, I had never done an abstract work before, so it represents my exploration within the concept. I wanted to challenge myself to do something away from realism and chose to attempt a humanlike figure because it was something I shied away from, scared by realism. While constructing my piece, I purposely kept the form simple with a soft texture so that the structure itself was the main focus. I chose the dark slightly muted glaze that highlighted its curves and the way the form moves through open space. I wanted to create a piece that was elegant, sleek, and modern, with smooth curves that felt visually fluid. I wanted this piece to exude the personification of movement.

  • Creativity to me is taking the way you see the world and turning it into something meaningful. I think to express it you need to combine your imagination and curiosity to create something that is important to you or resonates with others.
