Puddles

Phoebe C.

  • To me, this photo embodies one of the most intriguing and captivating parts of photography in that it displays the capabilities of a camera to present various aspects of life that we are otherwise oblivious to. Walking past a puddle our immediate reaction is to walk around it to avoid getting our shoes wet, or the complete opposite, jump in and splash around. However, we completely disregard the potential that that puddle holds to show us the world in a completely new light and alter our idea of reality. The puddle in this image was in the middle of a parking lot, on a boring cement ground, surrounded by parked cars, and people minding their own business. But at the same time that this puddle was on the ground, the sky was decorated beautifully with clouds and a towering tree that had a harsh contrast to the sky. The simplicity of the puddle enabled me to take an otherwise normal and seemingly bleak scene and create something abnormal and intriguing through the lens of my camera.

  • Exploring art and creativity is a large part of who I identify as. It is an escape from reality that allows me to express parts of myself that would have otherwise remained silent. Each type of art is a different form of expression that is engaging and beautiful, each in its own way.
