Morning Moon

Zeyneb K.

  • This work is a non-fiction memoir about fear, denial, and pain. It is about my struggle with trying to accept myself and realize that while I may be different, I am not broken. I describe my frustration with not having control and not having any knowledge about myself, and thus my loss of identity. However, it was through the search of knowledge, of finding myself, that I could heal. In my work, I aim to urge people to look beyond the surface of people and understand them, and look into themselves to remember their self-compassion.

  • For me, words are like living bird of humanity that we have breathed life into and taught to sing. Each word holds a greater meaning based on its use over time, and in using it, I hold the power to contribute to changing its use in the future. The words I choose, in this way, can change our future.
