Morceau De Concert by C. Saint-Saëns

Paul Y.

  • My performance video is on Saint Saens's Morceau de Concert for Horn. The piece initially begins in F minor with a theme, then 2 variations after it. After these three sets of variations—from duplets to triplets to quadruplets—the piece transitions to a slow, lyrical, adagio section. This section touches notes in the lower register of the horn, ending with a calm held fermata. Soon after, the piano returns at full volume with a speed marked allegro non troppo. The piece then transitions to the soloist playing rapid scales covering a very long range in the Horn's note capabilities. The recording submitted below is only the allegro non troppo part, as the entire morceau de Concert piece is more than 8 minutes long, well over the limit. At the time of recording, I had practiced this piece for over 3 months, slowly trying to perfect every single passage and note.

  • My French horn has been my companion and source of joy during times of loneliness and isolation. I also find joy in sharing my musical experiences with others. Through music, I explore my creative self, channel my emotion and connect with the community around me.
