Autumn's Giving Dog

Brendan L.

  • During Thanksgiving 2018 it was pouring down rain and I was eating our feast with my parents, brother and grandparents. My dog Sophie was begging for turkey. She was very whiny, so we put her in the garage where she can sleep on an old sofa and the side door is usually propped open so she can go outside. When we finished our meal, I looked for Sophie in the garage to bring her back in the house. She was nowhere to be found. I walked outside in the backyard and saw her shaking uncontrollably. We had to take her to vet that night. She was having a massive seizure. We had to say goodbye to her which was so hard because she was a part of our family for 14 years. Every Thanksgiving, I always say a prayer for my dog. My short story is dedicated to my dog Sophie who will always be with me in spirit.

  • During the COVID shelter in place, I found a passion for creative writing, creating stories that are full of emotion and expression. Writing kept me focused and full of possibility. For me, writing brings a ray of sunshine on days where it can feel the rainiest.
